My First SOVAS Nomination!

It’s been a while since I’ve had a chance to write a new blog - I’ve been busy building my shiny new website, strategically increasing my client-base in markets and genres I’ve always wanted to work in, and creating my new VO Podcast, Cuppa VO (go check it out, if you haven’t already done so)!

And what a lovely surprise to wake up to, to find that all that hard work is paying off - I spotted in my inbox that I’m a finalist in the 10th Annual SOVAS (Society of Voice Arts and Sciences) Awards for Best VO Website! With over 100 categories and a mostly US-based entries, competition is fierce for a coveted place on the nominees list of what it widely regarded as ‘The Oscars for Voiceover’. So I can’t tell you how proud of myself I am, and also super chuffed to see some of my fellow Brit VOs making the list too, including Katie Flamman, Chris Tester, Ben McAuley, Bhav Parmar and Verity Uma Johnson.

I can’t tell you how strange it is to appear on the same list as Bono (Best Audiobook Narration) and Ice Cube (Outstanding Animation Character for Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem) - but there you have it!

I would have absolutely loved to have had my voice work nominated for this type of award, but to be honest, I’m just as proud that my website has been recognised. As an ex-marketer and champion of Business skills for VO success, I really believe that I wouldn’t be where I am today without those skills and its so important to promote that side of VO to newcomers. Being a savvy business person and marketer is just as important as investing in all the gear, training and improving your vocal and acting performance.

The awards will be held on Sunday the 10th December in Beverley Hills, CA - sadly I won’t be able to attend in person, but I will be excitedly awaiting to hear who the winners are and cheering on my fellow VO pals!
